Sweet Sixteen for Surfrider’s Ocean Initiatives
Biarrtiz, 25th February 2011. In its sixteenth year running, Surfrider’s Ocean Initiatives - an annual cross European beach clean-up event - will take place this March, with the goal of trumping the 40,000 European citizens who attended the event last year.
Ocean Initiatives is the world’s largest beach clean up according to Seas At Risk member organisation the Surfrider Foundation Europe, and last year 7,500 children took part, in 34 different countries with 950 clean ups organised.
The operation intends not only to remove the shocking amount of litter found on European coastlines but also to raise awareness amongst citizens and policy makers alike to act on the growing problem of marine litter.
This year the event will take place between March 24 - 27.
