Online, 6th December 2011. It is estimated by scientists that around 250 billion pieces of plastic are swimming in the Mediterranean Sea. With this in mind, it’s good to know there are solutions at our disposal and on Seas At Risk’s educational website Learn2sea.org we’ve uploaded some excellent new materials for teachers, children, adults, industry and NGOs to discover more!
Waste in our life
The educational material “Waste in our life” was produced within the MEdIES Initiative and aims at facilitating educational schemes for a better understanding problems associated with household waste. Learn2Sea provides the Educator’s book and also the Learner’s book for download.
Keep the Mediterranean Litter Free!
HELMEPA, Clean-up Greece and MIO-ECSDE jointly with UNEP/MAP have launched the “Keep the Mediterranean Litter-free Campaign” to raise public awareness on the causes and impacts of marine pollution. The brochure has been produced to highlight the role and responsibilities of all actors concerned in protecting the coastal and marine environment from marine litter. The brochure has been produced in Arabic, English, French and Greek.
Public awareness for the management of marine litter in the Mediterranean
A proposal of MIOECSDE, HELMEPA and CLEAN UP GREECE to UNEP/MAP for a common regional approach on awareness raising and educational schemes regarding marine litter. It has been developed for the general public and also for other stakeholders such as the maritime industry, the tourism sector, agriculture, regional and national authorities, NGOs and the media.
